PROFESSIONAL SERVICE
President/CEO, California Animal Health Educators Association 1990-present
Developed a competency-based curriculum
for Animal and Veterinary Careers. Funding was made possible through a grant jointly
funded by The Community College Chancellors Office, Vocational Education Unit: The State
Department of Education, Agricultural Education Unit; and the Agricultural Education Unit,
University of California at Davis. This program of work has been distributed to and has
been implemented by 150 programs throughout the state.
Developed a state wide directory of
animal and veterinary careers programs and Instructors.
Consults with new animal health care
programs throughout the state providing instructors with curriculum and other available
instructional tools. Assists instructors in establishing advisory committees and
on-site training facilities.
Served as a liaison between the
California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and the California Agricultural Teachers
Association (CATA).
Developed and implemented The
Specialty Animal Judging contest, which is now an official state FFA contest.

Developed and implemented a pet visitation program working closely with local
animal shelters. Students were trained in Pet Enhanced Therapy Skills (PETS) and then
implemented their skills during visitations.

Agricultural Teachers Association (CATA)
Served as liaison between the California
Veterinary Medical Association the CATA and The Animal Health Educators Association.
Developed and presented contests and
workshops during the CATA summer conferences introducing the Specialty Animal Judging
contest and various topics of interest including ostrich production, llama breeding, and
small companion animal career opportunities as well as careers in thoroughbred horse
production overseas.
Assisted in Bridging the Gap
between CVMA animal health care rules and regulations and allowable
procedures in agricultural programs.
Veterinary Technician Committee,
California Veterinary Medical Association
Developed and implemented the veterinary technician Career Ladder, also
defined and implemented various acceptable avenues for licensure by blending experience
with certificate programs as well as through accredited programs throughout the state.
This was accomplished to accommodate students who do not have programs close to their
homes.
