Veterinary Technicians or Assistants provide animals with specialized nursing care. This is done by preparing patients, instruments and equipment for surgery; exposing and developing radiographs, collecting specimens for and performing laboratory procedures, obtaining and recording patient case histories, assisting in diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures; communicating with animal owners, supervising and training clinical personnel, and performing surgical nursing and dental prophylaxis.
