Veterinary Sciences If you enjoy working with animals, being part of a professional team and having a challenging and rewarding career, then the field of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (AVS) may be for you. There are many career choices available to you if you become a Registered Veterinary Technician or Assistant. Veterinary Technicians or Assistants provide animals with specialized nursing care. This is done by preparing patients, instruments and equipment for surgery; exposing and developing radiographs, collecting specimens for and performing laboratory procedures, obtaining and recording patient case histories, assisting in diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures; communicating with animal owners, supervising and training clinical personnel, and performing surgical nursing and dental prophylaxis. Career opportunities in the field of Animal and Veterinary Sciences are varied. Career AVS graduates can be found in research, biomedical laboratories, teaching, veterinary supply sales, zoos and wildlife facilities, humane societies and animal control facilities, the military, drug or feed manufacturing, and food safety inspection. |
